Darul Hidayah is an independent, non-profit organization that was established by a group of scholars as an Islamic educational initiative for adult students. Its goal is to help connect the NY/NJ Muslim community to traditional Islamic knowledge and reliable scholarship while also increasing the demand for authentic learning amongst Muslim students and professionals.
Utilizing the skills, experience, and knowledge of traditionally-trained, and highly motivated scholars, Darul Hidayah focuses on the development and improvement of Islamic programs that are relevant and accessible to today’s Muslims. Our goal is to empower all Muslims with the blessed knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah so that they can live as upright citizens who fully understand their responsibilities as students of knowledge, seekers of spiritual purification, and disseminators of the faith.
Our courses, while focused on the application and relevance of Islamic texts to the modern context, never attempt to sacrifice content in the process. Instructors challenge students to develop the skills necessary to understand the application of the Quran and Sunnah into their own individual context.
Perhaps most importantly, Darul Hidayah’s courses offer an adult accelerated-learning Islamic studies initiative that caters to the needs of a cross-section of society that has long been neglected. We offers courses for serious adults and maintain a flexible schedule so as to accommodate the busy lives of working adults and full-time high-school or college students. This includes our Weekend Alim Course, which is an intensive Islamic studies program that puts students on the path towards Islamic scholarship. In addition, our Essentials Courses provide an opportunity for students to gain knowledge that allows them to live their lives according to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah and to gain a deeper understanding of their faith.
Our administrative office is located at 639 Teaneck Rd, Suite 2B, Teaneck, NJ 07666
Why Darul Hidayah?
What can you gain from studying at Darul Hidayah? What are the advantages of studying at Darul Hidayah?
1) Scholarly Involvement
Every Darul Hidayah course is taught by a traditionally-educated scholar of Islam. Additionally, all our instructors are fluent in English, and acutely aware of the environment that surrounds us. Additionally, they have each dedicated large periods of their life, in and out of the United States, to the study of the Islamic sciences. These well-grounded ʿulama, whose priority is the practical implementation of the Islamic principles, have not only designed and approved the courses but also teach and administer them.
2) Time Requirement
Our Islamic studies curriculum has been designed to reduce the necessary in-class time requirement to a comfortable minimum without sacrificing the importance of teacher/student interaction. Our intensive weekend Alim course demands 6 hours of in-class study per week, and our “Essentials” courses demand only three hours of in-class study a week or less depending on each student’s course selection. This allows for both high school and college students, as well as working adults, to participate and benefit from the Islamic studies course.
3) Range of Subjects
Students enrolled in our weekend Alim program will study a comprehensive syllabus of the Islamic sciences. This includes an intensive study of the Arabic language and the subsequent study of texts in hadith, fiqh, aqidah, tajweed, tafsir and many more.
Students enrolled in our “Essentials” courses will also have the opportunity to study a wide range of subjects. The course material of this syllabus has been designed to include a wide variety of Islamic subjects, many of which are not offered commonly elsewhere. The curriculum includes classes in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), creed (‘aqidah), prophetic tradition (hadith), prophetic biography (sirah), exegesis (tafsir al-Qur’an), legal principles and history (usul al-fiqh), and religious propagation (da’wah).
4) Teacher-Student Interaction
Without a doubt, the most important feature of a truly Islamic educational system is the sacred interaction between student and teacher. Our method of instruction provides the opportunity for teacher-student interaction through group discussion, question and answer sessions, and more.
5) Relevant Knowledge
Our courses are designed to focus on practical knowledge, knowledge you can apply to your life every day. Darul Hidayah doesn’t treat ‘ilm as simply an academic endeavor, but places a great amount of emphasis on practical application in respect to all material that is covered in classes.
6) Passion for Knowledge
What makes a good teacher? Is it simply knowledge and experience or a passionate will to share that knowledge and experience with others? What Darul Hidayah’s devoted staff of teachers share is a love for learning and an even greater love for helping others partake of that knowledge. Students will testify to the passion and dedication of each of our instructors and their commitment to creating the best learning experience for their students.
